Last weekend, Erik and I made a trip back to my homeland for my brother Evan's wedding. It was a very exciting and fun trip, though the weather was not ideal. I couldn't wait to hit all my old haunts and see the crew again. And because Erik had never been, it was doubly exciting to show him around and have him meet everybody.
One of our first stops was a bird sanctuary along the Theodore Wirth Parkway I had never been to, so it was nice to experience something new together. We both got some great bird shots and followed it up with a stop by Lake Calhoun where we spotted a bald eagle hanging out in a tree. Erik got some really amazing shots. Mine are meh.
We spent a lot of time hanging out in NE Minneapolis, which is forever my favorite hood in the city. I took him to Punch Pizza, Nye's (where he had his first Surly, awww!) and Krzmarzick's restaurant, which he loved, and I had embarrassingly never been to before. I took him to the Osseo Meat Market by my house, where we bought all the beef jerky. My parent's used to buy it every now and then. It is by far one of my favorite memories growing up in that area and some of the best jerky I've ever had.
The wedding itself took place at the Como Conservatory due to really awesome weather conditions. It was small and beautiful and perfect. It was so fun to get dressed up and to spend a nice, quiet night with my family and Evan and Sarah's close friends.
I attempted to show Erik some of the nature that Minnesota has, but the weather was just bananas most of the weekend. We tried to go up to Taylor's Falls and walked around for about 15 minutes or so before calling it a day. We capped things off with some bowling at Elsie's and delicious pizza from Pizza Luce. Oh, SO good. I only wish the State Fair had come just a little sooner this year so I could have exposed Erik to the great Minnesota get-together. Maybe next year.
